17th December 2025
As we wrap up 2025, we are pleased to share our final newsletter of the year, with a look back at recent updates and a preview of what’s to come.
Product Update
New Features: GetFTR Browser Extension
New features support discovery and access, research integrity and workflow, including:
- GetFTR buttons now appear in AI research tools such as ChatGPT, Claude and Google Scholar Labs AI, linking researchers to the trusted full text and flagging updates or retractions
- Clear licence information, delivered by Crossref, is available on hover, supporting confident reading, sharing and citing – this is available to all integration partners
- One-click saving to popular reference managers including Mendeley, Zotero and RefWorks
- Improved visibility of article updates and retractions, supporting research integrity
Researchers are increasingly encountering GetFTR indicators across the web, helping them quickly identify trusted access options and reach the full text more efficiently. Read more on our website.
The GetFTR OJS plugin
We are pleased to offer a GetFTR plugin for Open Journal Systems (OJS), extending trusted access and integrity signals directly within the journal platform. The plugin
- Adds clear links to the trusted full text where users are entitled via open access or institutional subscription
- Flags when an article has been updated or retracted, supporting transparency and research integrity
Designed to integrate seamlessly, the plugin helps journals ensure readers are directed to the most reliable version of record.
Looking ahead to 2026, we’ll be introducing piloting new librarian tools, publisher benchmarking, expanded support for AI tools, and more.
New Partners and Integrations
We’re pleased to welcome new partners, bringing trusted access to even more of the tools and platforms researchers use every day. These integrations help researchers move from discovery to the trusted full text, directly at the point of need.
- Web of Science
- BioFinder
New publishers this quarter include:
- American Psychological Association (APA)
- King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre
Events
We had an incredibly busy last quarter as we were present at all the major scholarly communications events including OASPA, Frankfurt Book Fair, Charleston, and STM Innovation & Integrity Days. We contributed to workshops, panel discussions and delivered lightning talks. We also presented at the Wiley Community Meeting.
Next quarter you will find us at the Charleston Conference Asia in January, and Researcher to Reader and Access Labs in February.
Founders Insights
As part of our fifth-anniversary celebrations this year, we’ve been speaking with our founding publishers to reflect on how research discovery has evolved over the past five years.
These conversations sparked insights that we have shared in a series of blogs. Each post explores a key theme shaping the future of discovery – from supporting trusted access and research integrity to ensuring visibility and value travel with the version of record wherever discovery begins, particularly with reference to the use of AI tools. You can read all of the founder Insights on our blog.
And finally…
2025 has been a great year for GetFTR
- We now support 50 integrations including Web of Science, Lean Library, Scite, Article Galaxy, Chemport, Biofinder as well as many publishers who have integrated across their own discovery services, AI tools, and references
- We support 7bn+ entitlement checks per year and with more publishers coming onboard in 2026 that number will only increase
- We introduced new features such as save to reference manager, license information, preprint to VoR links, journal transfer, OJS plug-in, which shows our continued commitment to working to solve the problems researchers most commonly face in their research journey
