Summary
Scite, a citation-intelligence platform now part of Research Solutions, integrated with Get Full Text Research (GetFTR) in July 2025 to connect its AI-powered discovery tool directly to verified, full-text content. The integration lets researchers move from an AI-generated answer or Smart Citation straight to the authoritative version of an article, in a single click, without navigating paywalls, sign-in pages, or “Where Are You From” (WAYF) screens.
As AI assistants and chatbots become an increasingly common starting point for research, discovery tools also need to connect researchers seamlessly to trusted publisher content. Scite’s integration with GetFTR shows how that can work in practice.
The Challenge
Scite’s AI-driven tools (Assistant, Search, and now its MCP server for third-party AI clients like Claude and ChatGPT) are built to synthesize scientific literature and hand researchers verifiable, citation-backed answers. But an accurate citation is only half the job: researchers still need the actual paper. Without a reliable way to reach the full text, an AI assistant can point researchers to the right source but still leave them stuck at a paywall. That gap between finding the right source and reading it disrupts the researcher’s experience, and the broader goal of reaching the version of record they are entitled to read.
The Solution
Announced in July 2025, the integration means researchers using Scite no longer have to stop at a citation. When Scite Assistant recommends a paywalled article, GetFTR checks whether the researcher has access and, if they do, provides a direct route to the publisher’s full text. If they don’t, Scite can offer alternative routes such as library proxy links, inter-library loan or Article Galaxy. The same functionality is available through Scite’s MCP server, so researchers using AI assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT via Scite can move from an AI-generated answer to the trusted source in a single click.
GetFTR’s Product Director, Dianne Benham, described the integration as “part of a wider effort to meet researchers wherever their research journey begins, so that discovery and access remain tightly linked throughout.”

- Makes it easier for researchers to reach the full text. Instead of stopping at a citation or searching elsewhere for a copy, they can go straight from Scite to the authoritative full text if they have access.
- Keeps publishers connected as discovery moves into AI tools. GetFTR helps direct researchers back to trusted publisher content and gives publishers better visibility of how that content is being accessed.
- Supports research integrity. GetFTR can also surface corrections and retractions from Crossref and Retraction Watch, helping researchers identify when an article has been updated.
